Do You Know What You Really Want?

I am writing this blog from beautiful, and very warm, Andalucía, where I am living and working for the next few weeks.
When I hit the big 50 last summer, I decided that I had to stop living my life entirely for my kids - who were off living their own lives anyway, and had expected that I would be doing the same - and start living my life for me.

First thing on the list was to travel more. I had a list of places that I wanted to visit (and all of them were sunny - the grey, rainy, cloudy, British weather is definitely NOT motivational for me!) so I picked Barcelona, booked a flight, and headed there for a week.

Just me.

It was amazing. Making the decision to do something - and then doing it, with no second thoughts - is tremendously empowering (especially when you do it on your own).

And, in fact, I loved it so much that I took my list, bought a stack of guide books, and started planning out my travels for the next two years.

The first thing I realised was that there was no point keeping an expensive home in the UK if I was rarely going to be there, so I'm giving up my lease. And secondly, my businesses needed to be portable too so that I could run them from wherever in the world I happen to be, so I've been working on moving everything online and virtual. I'm almost there...

It's SO scary! But it's also SO fantastic. Because, the thing is, there's a big old world out there - and I want to see it. I want to be part of it. Even if it's just for a few months before I either decide that I miss the grey British skies too much, or I find it's just not for me. I'll have done it.
I'll have lived my life the way I want to live it.
The life I want.

Are you doing the same? Are you living the life you want, or are you settling for second - or perhaps - third best? And is that because, for now, it makes sense (and you plan to go and do your thing when you can), or are you tying yourself to this version of your life because you're too frightened to embrace what you really want?

If the latter, remember these three things:

  1. You only get one go around the block, so make it the best journey you can imagine.
  2. If your life isn't the life you want - you, and only you, have the power to change it. You just have to commit to making the change.
  3. There is no such thing as tomorrow: life is right now. So you want to make a change? Make it now.

Be brave...

I'd LOVE to know what you're doing to live the life you really want. Comment below!
